Key information
A graded PSA 10 Holo Lugia card from the 23-year-old Aquapolis set recently sold at auction for a staggering $360,000. This sale shattered the previous record of $148,511 by a margin of 142%.
Aquapolis belongs to the Pokémon TCG's first three e-Reader sets, which featured limited print runs due to a period of diminished popularity. These sets marked the end of Wizards of the Coast publishing duties before Pokémon USA took over the English-language game beginning with Ruby & Sapphire.
The Aquapolis Lugia is a Secret Rare card numbered 149/147, featuring the Crystal Type Poké-Body that allowed its typing to change based on attached Basic Energy. Illustrated by Naoyo Kimura, the card depicts a breaching Lugia within a canted frame, alongside a multifaceted diamond-like text box background and e-Reader borders.
The Crystal Lugia also returned in 30th Celebration, quickly emerging as one of that set's most valuable cards more than two decades after Aquapolis initially hit shelves.
