Key information
Katana Smith by SENSE SHARE is a simulation game themed around crafting Japanese swords in Kyoto at the end of the Edo period. The October 7 announcement revealed plans to release a demo for Steam on October 9. Rather than fighting with swords, the gameplay focuses on processing tamahagane into finished blades.
The demo includes charcoal cutting, forging and extending, basic extending, shaping, clay application, quenching, and polishing. The core gameplay revolves around working while observing the hearth flames and the color of the heated steel, verifying the state of the metal.
One of the features is that the pattern of clay applied to the blade appears as a hamon (temper line) after quenching and polishing. The finish reportedly changes depending on the temperature and the state of the steel. After completion, players can admire the sword in inspection mode and check the results of their work.
In the forge, players can arrange equipment, furniture, tamahagane, and materials in-progress. The system allows players to choose whether to prioritize work efficiency or visual appearance. There are plans to add more sword-making steps in the future, and participation in the Steam Next Fest from October 19 to 26 has also been announced.
