VALORANT VAN9001 and VAN9003: check TPM and Secure Boot first

Read the error number before reinstalling. VAN9001 means Vanguard cannot detect enabled TPM 2.0; VAN9003 concerns Secure Boot requirements. They need different checks, rather than one blanket fix.

Check the status in Windows

  1. Press Win+R and run msinfo32. Check BIOS Mode and Secure Boot State: the target is UEFI and On.
  2. Run tpm.msc through Win+R. Check both ready-for-use status and Specification Version 2.0. Version 1.2 does not meet the same requirement.
  3. If the TPM console will not open, check Windows Security → Device Security → Security processor details.

Secure Boot: the next step depends on UEFI

If the system uses UEFI and only Secure Boot is off, follow your PC or motherboard maker's instructions to enable Secure Boot in BIOS and save. Reboot and check msinfo32 again. Advanced startup → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings is one route; keys and menus vary by manufacturer.

On Legacy/MBR systems, changing BIOS mode first can stop Windows booting. Check GPT/MBR under the system disk's Properties → Volumes in Disk Management. For MBR, check conversion eligibility first. Riot lists Windows 10 1703 or later, 64-bit OS, at most three partitions, encryption off, no dual boot, UEFI support and Secure Boot disabled. Back up files, use Microsoft's MBR2GPT validation/conversion procedure, switch to UEFI and confirm Windows boots before enabling Secure Boot.

A greyed-out setting may require restoring default Secure Boot keys. Before resetting keys, suspend BitLocker protection or obtain its recovery key. If the setting is On but errors continue, check BIOS updates for the exact board model and hardware support. Do not interrupt power during the update. STATUS_SB_POLICY and other RESTRICTION messages can require additional checks.

TPM: check firmware settings before buying a chip

Intel commonly uses PTT; AMD uses fTPM. Find TPM, Trusted Computing, PTT or fTPM in the manufacturer's manual, enable it, save and reboot, then recheck tpm.msc. If the option is missing or not detected after enabling it, consider the BIOS update for your exact model.

A discrete TPM can satisfy basic VAN9001 requirements, but a TPM-related VAN: RESTRICTION may require firmware TPM. If only version 1.2 is supported, first check whether a 2.0 mode exists. Switching versions can clear TPM keys, so prepare BitLocker recovery first. For stuttering on older AMD fTPM firmware, Riot recommends a manufacturer BIOS update rather than disabling fTPM.

When to stop

If you are unsure about BIOS menus or disk conversion eligibility, send the manufacturer your model and current screen. Settings alone cannot make unsupported hardware compatible. This guide reorganizes official advice by symptom; follow the error actually shown on your PC.

오류 번호별로 설정 확인하는 순서가 명확해서 좋네요. 특히 TPM과 보안 부팅을 분리해서 봐야 한다는 점이 핵심이겠어요!
