Takashi Iizuka, the general producer of the Sonic series, suggested in an interview with Automaton that the Sonic franchise will not be receiving remakes or remasters anytime soon. Iizuka pointed out the lack of originality in remakes and noted that they still involve high development costs.
While acknowledging that Sonic Team receives various requests from fans asking for remakes and ports of titles like Sonic Unleashed, Iizuka expressed his perspective that remakes and remasters essentially provide the exact same experience again.
Iizuka explained that remaking older games requires resources comparable to creating a completely new title. According to Iizuka, developers must recreate all the graphics and cannot simply release gameplay as it was originally, since many elements appear rough by modern standards.
Despite dismissing standard remakes, Iizuka mentioned hearing concerns about certain games currently being unplayable, asking fans to wait a little longer regarding those titles.
