Riot Games has officially postponed the implementation of new restrictions on League of Legends match replays. Originally slated for the 26.20 update, the changes will now be delayed until the 26.21 version following significant pushback from the community.
The proposed update aimed to limit replay access to only the player's own matches, effectively blocking third-party applications and websites from downloading or accessing replay data. Riot cited information security and the need to prevent external tools from accessing game memory as the primary reasons for these security measures.
Professional coaching staff and content creators expressed strong opposition, noting that replays are essential for analyzing tactics, jungle paths, and improving gameplay. They argued that restricting access would severely damage the game's ecosystem and hinder the ability of players to learn from top-tier matches.
In response to these concerns, Riot Games is currently developing alternative solutions. The company intends to establish proper support measures to ensure that coaches and creators are not negatively impacted before the updated policy is eventually implemented.
