Independent game developers Panda and Uzumi Tsumiki have announced that their new horror title, Kimodameshi Online, is scheduled for release on PC Steam in late October.
Set in a Showa-era junior high school frozen in time on the day of an accident, players assume the roles of livestreamers conducting a courage test. Participants must locate photography targets scattered throughout the school building and stream them live to increase their concurrent viewers and channel subscribers.
The multiplayer experience features a traitor mechanic where one player is possessed by a ghost, granting abilities to walk through walls and set traps to disrupt the broadcasts. Players can report and identify the traitor via voting, though the traitor can also maximize subscriber growth by remaining undetected until the end of the round.
The game incorporates proximity-based voice chat that realistically simulates sound propagation, meaning voices become muffled through walls or muted entirely when players are on different floors, enhancing the sense of isolation and dread.
