The original Nidhogg title has received a significant online update on Steam, introducing rollback netcode to improve the responsiveness of competitive matches. This update arrives twelve years after the game's initial release.

Matchmaking systems have been overhauled to prioritize opponents with the best ping. Additionally, players can now accept game invites directly within the interface, bypassing the need for the Steam overlay. A new time limit for accepting matches prevents players from joining lobbies hosted by inactive users.

Solo players gain access to a dedicated Training mode, allowing practice against CPU opponents on any map without requiring an Arcade run. A CPU Battle feature has also been added, enabling users to observe matches between two computer-controlled fighters.

The update includes several quality-of-life improvements, such as specific button glyphs for both keyboard and controller inputs. The developers have also implemented various general fixes to enhance the overall stability and performance of the experience.
