Borderlands Online, a cancelled free-to-play MMO originally intended exclusively for China, has been revived by a modder named EpicNNG after years of being buried. The project allows players to compete for resources using four distinct character classes.

The revival effort involved substantial technical work, including fixing navigation errors, enemy AI behavior, and translating all Chinese user interface elements into English. Players can now access North American and European public servers or play offline.

EpicNNG acknowledged that the version still has significant issues and bugs. The team accelerated the release to prevent individuals with access to generative artificial intelligence from recreating the game first using shared details.

The playtest welcomed over 3,500 users within less than 24 hours. However, EpicNNG noted that Take-Two could issue a cease-and-desist at any moment, and the team would comply immediately despite the project lacking monetization.
