Sony has officially unveiled a Midnight Black variant of its disc-less PlayStation 5 console. This specific model is currently slated exclusively for the Japanese market.
The Midnight Black PS5 Digital Edition is scheduled to launch on 19th November, coinciding with the release date of GTA 6. The console is priced at ¥55,000, which is approximately $380 or £263.
This unit is region-locked, meaning the language settings are fixed to Japanese and it requires a Japanese PSN account. These restrictions prevent the console from being exported, which contributes to its lower price point compared to global models. Additionally, Sony is launching a matching Midnight Black blu-ray disc drive for users who prefer physical media.
While this specific console is limited to Japan, international users can achieve a similar aesthetic by purchasing Midnight Black console covers and a DualSense controller. However, the official Midnight Black blu-ray drive remains unavailable outside of Japan, though it is possible Sony may expand availability for this accessory globally in the future.
