The Google Japan Gboard team has released its latest conceptual keyboard design on October 1, introducing the rotating Gboard concept to help users avoid moving their fingers across traditional fixed key layouts.

Inspired by factory conveyor belts, the unique hardware utilizes a conveyor belt circulation mechanism alongside a flexible printed circuit board, featuring a vertical layout with 4 rows and 29 keys per row that aims to save desk space.

Rather than moving hands back and forth, typists can keep their hands still and wait for the desired keys to roll past, which makes the peripheral suited for single-handed typing and improves office efficiency.

Additional modes include a high-speed setting for training dynamic vision, a voice reading mode that sounds out rolling letters, a musical instrument function known as a scraper, and corrugated cardboard keycaps that double as a scratching board.

Following previous traditions, the Google team has open-sourced the entire keyboard project on GitHub for public download and creation, while also planning a luxury version featuring stone-carved keycaps crafted from waita stone, a cultural heritage from Japan's Shimane Prefecture.
