Epic Games has officially launched a preview version of its redesigned Epic Games Launcher on October 14. This update aims to improve the user interface and overall responsiveness of the platform, which serves as a digital storefront for PC and mobile users.
The new launcher was developed using AI-assisted coding, aligning with CEO Tim Sweeney's strategy to accelerate development through generative AI. While the current preview version offers limited features, it includes essential tools such as library management, store purchases, friend lists, and chat functionality.
A key highlight of the update is its improved startup speed compared to Steam. Official data indicates the new launcher is 46% faster during a cold start at 5.47 seconds and 14% faster when launching from the system tray at 0.36 seconds.
The project, which was identified as a top priority following previous internal criticism of the original software, was initially slated for a mid-year release. Epic Games plans to continue optimizing the platform and adding new features based on user feedback as it moves toward a full release.
