Yuji Horii, the renowned creator of the Dragon Quest franchise and contributor to Chrono Trigger, has utilized generative artificial intelligence to develop a new game. The 72-year-old developer completed the project in approximately 30 minutes.
The resulting title, titled Interrogation Room Komiya, tasks players with selecting text options to prompt a suspect into confessing to a crime. Horii noted that while he previously handled all aspects of game creation—including story, art, and programming—independently for The Portopia Serial Murder Case, the new technology significantly streamlined this process.
Horii previously expressed interest in this technology, suggesting last year that AI could be effectively implemented in mystery or trivia games where players must identify a culprit. His recent experiment aligns with this vision for interactive entertainment.
The game is currently available for users to play for free. This development reflects broader discussions in Japan regarding the potential for AI to accelerate production workflows across various creative industries, including anime.
