Director Naoki Hamaguchi has addressed community backlash regarding the physical release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Despite fan expectations for a multi-disc format similar to previous entries, the upcoming title will be distributed on a single disc that functions as a key, requiring players to download the remainder of the game content.
Hamaguchi stated in an interview with Radio Times that he advocated for a physical version as much as possible amidst industry pressure favoring digital-only formats. He clarified that while he is responsible for the game's content, his authority regarding publishing decisions and distribution formats remains limited.
The director acknowledged the negative reception on social media and expressed understanding for players who disagree with the current distribution strategy. He emphasized that he pushed for the physical edition's existence throughout negotiations, even though the final product will not contain the complete game on the disc.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release on 8 April 2027. The title is expected to occupy approximately 200 GB of storage space.
