Valve's game Deadlock has been transformed into a genuinely frightening horror experience following the release of its latest major update, titled City Never Sleeps.
The major update introduced six new heroes to the game, with the very first being the Rat King. Playing as the character Rem in the maze of tunnels beneath the map became terrifying after the Rat King was added, leading to encounters where attacks are not enough to defeat him and fleeing is hindered when combat locks tunnel exits.
According to the reviewer, playing the game now results in frequent jumpscares from the giant rat character, who hunts players down and throws Miguel, Jacques, or Abbie with an I at them in the dark tunnels.
The horror elements extend beyond the subterranean areas into new districts like Chinatown, where unexpected ambushes by opposing players complete the terrifying gameplay shift.
