Ultra Street Fighter IV, released in 2014, has received two separate fan-made modifications attempting to introduce connection-stabilising rollback netcode instead of its original delay-based system.
Rollback netcode operates by accepting player inputs immediately and reversing the game state if connection issues cause inconsistencies, avoiding the input delays inherent to older netcode.
Both new projects, Faabi's SF4Enhanced and Kabiefox's SF4 Ember, were coded with the assistance of Anthropic's Claude. Faabi has already abandoned SF4Enhanced, citing a lack of time and noting they had barely written any C++ prior to the project.
Despite the reliance on generative AI, both modifications have attracted considerable player engagement, offering private rooms alongside rollback functionality.
