The original animated film titled The Apothecary Diaries: The Secret Treasure of the Deceased Consort is scheduled for a Japanese theatrical release on December 11. Official announcements have confirmed this date alongside a new promotional video.
The plot follows Maomao and Jinshi as they travel to the southern water city of Minanshu. Their mission involves returning the remains of a consort who passed away in the harem five years ago. During this journey, Maomao encounters unfamiliar medicinal herbs while uncovering mysteries surrounding the consort and local water bandits.
Norihiro Naganuma, who served as the series composition and director for the television anime, returns to direct this feature. The production team includes screenwriter Yuko Kakihara and character designer Yukiko Nakatani, with animation handled by TOHO animation STUDIO.
The film expands its voice cast with the addition of Kensho Ono as Suida and Ryota Takeuchi as Eisho. They join returning leads Aoi Yuki as Maomao and Takeo Otsuka as Jinshi, alongside a large supporting cast including Katsuyuki Konishi and Sumi Shimamoto.
