Microsoft has clarified that Grand Theft Auto VI will not be playable on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch, directly addressing a recent report claiming otherwise. An initial report had suggested that Xbox secured exclusive streaming rights for the upcoming Rockstar Games title, which would have theoretically allowed players to access it on various devices including a PC.

Matthew Ball, Xbox strategy director, publicly responded on October 7, 2026, to correct the misreporting. Ball confirmed that while they look forward to launching the game on Xbox on November 19, 2026, it will neither be streamed exclusively nor made available on PC via the cloud. Clarifying the scope of their rights, Xbox will have cloud streaming capabilities for the game, but not as an exclusive feature nor as a way for PC players to access it.

Confusion had also stemmed from internal statements by Xbox head Asha Sharma, who reportedly told employees that Microsoft was preparing something for GTA 6 that no other platform holder is doing, though the exact meaning remains unclear. Meanwhile, Rockstar Games has still not announced an official PC version. Consequently, players wanting to play the action-adventure game at its November 19 launch will need a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S console.
