Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft: Forever will maintain a slower, more deliberate combat pace compared to the modern version of the MMO. Developers stated that the mechanical complexity currently present in the beta is representative of their long-term intentions for the game.

The design philosophy focuses on simpler class kits that retain engaging depth, avoiding the rapid, reactive gameplay style often described as Whac-A-Mole. Players can expect to manage abilities around auto-attack windows rather than juggling extensive action bars, keeping the experience consistent with the original game's tone.

PC Gamer contributor Morgan Park notes that while the methodical combat is satisfying, the reliance on preparation through consumables and gear sets for raids may be demanding. Additionally, the developer clarified that the zany class designs seen in Season of Discovery are not currently planned for this release.

Despite the focus on traditional pacing, Blizzard is introducing unique items that allow for rule-breaking playstyles, such as mage-specific swords that interact with frozen targets. These additions aim to support horizontal progression, encouraging players to experiment with new character builds without accelerating the overall speed of combat.
