Sony Interactive Entertainment has successfully shuttered Overdrive, an unauthorized digital storefront designed for jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles. The platform reportedly hosted over 1,600 free PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles and downloadable content before legal intervention.

The illicit service was linked to the Relapse jailbreak, developed by Nathan Fargo in late September. This vulnerability impacted system software versions ranging from 7.00 to 13.60, allowing unauthorized access to the console's software ecosystem.

In response, Sony released system updates 14.00 and 14.10 to patch the security flaw. These updates are expected to be mandatory for future major releases, including GTA 6 and God of War Laufey, effectively preventing these titles from running on modified hardware.

Following a cease and desist letter from Sony's legal team, the Overdrive store is now offline. Consequently, users can no longer download recent titles such as Marvel's Wolverine through the platform, ending the project shortly after its October 12 inception.
