Novus Inceptio has received its first major update since 2018 while remaining in early access, eleven years after its October 2015 debut. PC Gamer spoke with solo developer Martin Markus Mastný about returning to the survival project after its lengthy interruption.

The revised wilderness covers 64 square kilometres, compared with the previous nine. The game currently focuses on single-player play. Co-op is a development intention, rather than a feature that this update has already delivered.

Mastný described the combination of development, community support and pressure to satisfy requests as a cause of burnout. He is now revisiting decisions in the code and game systems, aiming to finish the project in a form he can be satisfied with.

His return is not a promise of a release deadline or full-time development. The practical evidence for players is the new update; future progress still depends on continued work. That distinction matters for an early-access project with such a long gap between major releases.
