Xbox is refining its future strategy following recent studio departures and internal layoffs. While the company intends to leverage established franchises like Diablo, Call of Duty, Fallout, and Gears of War, executive Asha Sharma emphasized that relying solely on past successes is not a viable long-term path for the brand.

During an internal meeting, Sharma highlighted the necessity of balancing legacy titles with fresh concepts. She argued that the company must possess the courage to innovate through new intellectual properties to reach broader audiences, asserting that sustainable business growth requires the creation of new, enduring brands alongside existing hits.

Specific plans for the Fallout franchise include the development of Fallout 5, a new RPG set in the same universe by Obsidian Entertainment, and remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Additionally, the Halo franchise has been moved under Activision's oversight to facilitate the development of a new entry following Halo Infinite.

Addressing speculation regarding the division's future, Sharma explicitly stated to The New York Times that Xbox is not for sale. She noted that the company will continue to evaluate necessary operational models and partnerships to ensure its ongoing success, countering reports that suggested Microsoft was considering a restructuring of its gaming division.
