Dwango has officially announced that the Nintendo Switch application for Niconico will terminate its service on March 31, 2027. This decision marks the end of the platform's presence on the console, which began in July 2017 and spanned approximately ten years of operation.

The application allowed users to watch various video categories, including game streams, anime, and vocaloid music, while supporting features like automated video playback, playlists, and the service's signature scrolling comments. Users could also utilize specific functions such as liking videos or posting comments, provided they had a registered account.

Regarding future hardware, Dwango confirmed that the application will not support the Nintendo Switch 2. Due to the service deployment policies and requirements for the upcoming console, there are no plans to develop or provide a version of Niconico for the new hardware.

While the Switch app is closing, user accounts and playlists will remain accessible via the browser version or mobile applications. New downloads from the Nintendo eShop will cease on February 28, 2027. To mark the conclusion, Dwango plans to distribute commemorative achievements to users who meet specific viewing criteria across the Switch and other platforms.
