Nintendo has officially stated that it intends to maintain physical game releases for the time being. Bill van Zyll, the company's vice-president and general manager for Latin America, confirmed in an interview that there are no current plans to abandon this format.

The upcoming Switch 2 console will support both digital purchases and physical media. These physical offerings may consist of traditional cartridges or Game-Key Cards, which function as access keys for digital titles rather than containing the full game data.

Van Zyll acknowledged that the company is aware of consumer interest in physical media. While some players have expressed frustration when boxed products contain only access keys, Nintendo maintains that its strategy is guided by player preferences.

These comments arrive during broader industry discussions regarding digital ownership and licensing. Unlike Sony's stated goal to shift away from physical discs by 2028, Nintendo's current position does not guarantee that physical releases will remain available indefinitely.
