Teruki Endo, combat director for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, admits that even after three games, Square Enix has not yet found a definitive answer for balancing real-time action with traditional turn-based command elements. The combat system throughout the trilogy has blended these distinct styles through trial and error, yet the team continues adjusting the approach without considering the formula finalized.

Development challenges for each sequel typically involve avoiding excessive system complexity while ensuring players still experience meaningful innovations compared to previous titles. To address this, the design philosophy relies on reviewing every mechanic from scratch before rebuilding it for the next game in the series.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will introduce the new FITS system, which allows players to specialize characters in different roles using outfits while maintaining the core importance of materia customization. Developed as an action RPG, the game is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, concluding the remake trilogy.
