A new utility called HelixSR allows users with older AMD graphics cards to utilize DLSS 3.7 instead of FSR 3. The tool functions by tricking games into believing they are running FSR 3.1, while substituting the upscaling algorithm with a version based on official DLSS files. This process leverages the GPU's standard shader cores, as AMD hardware lacks the dedicated Tensor cores typically required for DLSS.

The primary target audience for this modification includes owners of RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 hardware, such as the RX 5000 and RX 6000 series, which cannot access the newer FSR 4 technology. Installation is described as straightforward, requiring users to extract a zip file and execute a batch script that prompts for game selection.

Regarding performance and visual fidelity, the author notes that the differences between FSR and DLSS via HelixSR are subtle. While some thin, straight edges may appear clearer in Quality mode, the author observed that the patch actually causes a slight decrease in overall performance. The visual improvements are characterized as minor rather than transformative.

Users can easily revert these changes by running a provided uninstall script. The author successfully tested the tool on an RX 9070 XT within titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2, noting that players should select the FSR or FSR 3 options in-game to activate the patched upscaling.
