Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear and Death Stranding, recently shared his positive impressions of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film. Writing on X, Kojima noted that while he was initially uninterested, he decided to watch the movie specifically because of Cregger’s involvement.
Kojima described the movie as a relentless sequence of classic horror techniques, jump scares, and terrifying scenarios. He specifically highlighted the opening music, which he felt was reminiscent of the film The Thing, noting that the intensity of the experience persists until the very end.
The film does not adapt a specific game story but instead focuses on the sensation of playing the franchise. Kojima remarked that the movie captures the experience of holding a controller, comparing his own frustration while playing the original 1996 PlayStation title to the struggles of the film's protagonist, Bryan.
Released in theaters last month, the film has achieved significant commercial success, becoming Cregger’s highest-grossing project to date. It has earned $320,438,566 worldwide, with Indian collections reaching ₹24.38 crore in gross earnings.
