The Hunter x Hunter franchise has officially unveiled its fourth theatrical adaptation, which will bring the Chimera Ant arc to Japanese stages in 2027. This production features a confirmed cast including Rento Nishiyama as Gon, Jin Hiramatsu as Killua, and Ryuji Sato as Meruem.
The play is scheduled to run in Tokyo from January 23 to February 7, 2027, followed by a series of performances in Kyoto from February 13 to February 21, 2027. The production is written and directed by Akira Yamazaki, with musical composition provided by Go Sakabe.
While this stage production offers a new way to experience the series, the future of the anime remains uncertain. As of October 2026, there is no official confirmation regarding a new season of the anime, which concluded its 148-episode run in 2014.
The theatrical project faces the challenge of adapting the scale of the Chimera Ant arc's battles and character development for a physical stage. This trend of adapting anime into stage shows is becoming increasingly common, with other titles like Jujutsu Kaisen and Solo Leveling also utilizing this format.
