Epic Games has introduced a redesigned launcher, developed using AI-assisted coding, which the company describes as "vibe coded." Currently available in a preview phase, this version aims to improve responsiveness and speed compared to the existing application. Epic Games is actively soliciting user feedback to guide future development toward a stable release.
The updated software introduces several organizational features previously absent from the platform, including a unified downloads page and library collections. Epic claims the new library interface is 30x faster than the previous iteration. Additionally, the company reports that the launcher starts 46% faster than Steam from a cold start, based on testing conducted by Keywords Studios across 13 Windows platforms.
Despite these improvements, the preview remains in a rough state. Users may encounter missing account management options and social features. Notably, the social menu is currently persistent, lacking options to resize or close it. Epic Games explicitly advises developers working on Unreal projects and competitive players of Fortnite or Rocket League to continue using the older launcher, citing potential gaps in functionality.
The preview is available for Windows 10 and 11, macOS 12 or newer, and specific Linux distributions including Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Fedora 43, or Debian 12. This release aligns with a broader shift toward AI-first workflows at Epic Games, as the company moves to integrate AI into its development processes.
