Epic Games has reportedly delayed an unannounced shooter featuring Marvel and Star Wars characters. Originally scheduled for March 2027, the project currently lacks a new release date as the company shifts its development strategy.

The studio is transitioning to an "AI-first" workflow, with leadership instructing staff to prioritize generative tools over traditional hand-written code. This mandate includes utilizing AI for all game art production.

CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed a company-wide pivot toward AI acceleration, framing the technology as a way to empower creators to build more content. However, some developers were reportedly shocked by the sudden change in direction.

This strategic shift follows a $1.5 billion investment from Disney in 2024 and significant layoffs of over 1,000 employees last March. While Epic Games continues to integrate AI into projects like Fortnite, the company previously underestimated the resources required for the crossover title.
