While GTA 6 approaches as the largest and most technologically ambitious video game ever created, another path exists born from creators who parted ways with the franchise long ago to pursue a different kind of industry. Leaving behind DMA Design, which later became Rockstar, developers at Denki wanted to escape rigid formulas and corporate offices to focus on smaller games built around pure experimentation.

This alternative path is exemplified by Sniper Dan, an indie game on Steam that evokes the spirit of the Dreamcast era. The game asks a fundamental design question: what is a weapon's purpose if you do not use it for what it was originally created for? Instead of shooting people or animals, players use firepower to help people across busy, highly detailed environments reminiscent of Where's Waldo books.

Gameplay revolves around quick observation, pattern recognition, and precise shooting to complete varied tasks, such as clearing weeds from a garden or shooting a stolen hat off a bird. Players can complete challenges in record time, hunt for collectibles, and trigger domino effects to reveal hidden elements, ultimately earning rewards to upgrade the sniper rifle used throughout the game.
