The newly introduced open-source tool REA, or Reverse Engineer Anything, enables AI agents to analyze the internal mechanisms of software even when the source code is not publicly available. By utilizing this tool, users can uncover how specific applications function at the binary level and receive evidence-based explanations regarding their operations.
Beyond mere analysis, REA allows developers to generate similar features for their own projects based on the insights gained. For instance, a user might request an AI to investigate a game's speed mechanics and subsequently create a smaller, adjustable version of that specific functionality.
REA integrates with various AI agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, and Grok Build, via the Model Context Protocol or direct terminal commands. The processing occurs within a local environment, ensuring that the analysis remains contained.
The tool supports a wide range of targets, such as native binaries, JavaScript, Electron, .NET assemblies, websites, Android APKs, firmware, and EVM bytecode. While JavaScript static analysis functions independently, native binary analysis requires the use of Hopper, Ghidra, or IDA.
