Game creator Kotaro Uchikoshi, known for titles like Ever17 and the AI: The Somnium Files series, announced the establishment of his new development studio, CRASH KEYS, on October 15, 2026. Uchikoshi clarified on X that he remains affiliated with his former company, Tookyo Games, and maintains a positive relationship with its representative, Kazutaka Kodaka.
Uchikoshi revealed that a project currently in development was cancelled, citing the inability to utilize AI for cost reduction as a contributing factor. He noted that while AI could have streamlined tedious tasks and shortened production timelines without reducing staff, the current industry climate treats AI usage as taboo. He expressed concern that avoiding AI could paradoxically lead to job losses for creators.
Kazutaka Kodaka publicly supported the announcement, encouraging fans to back Uchikoshi’s new venture. Kodaka stated he would provide his own support for the creator as he moves forward with his independent studio.
