Epic Games has introduced a new version of its launcher in preview form, aiming to improve speed and responsiveness compared to competitors like Steam. The company describes the update as being "vibe coded," a process they jokingly attribute to the difficulty of traditional programming.

According to Epic Games Store general manager Martin Keely, the software was rebuilt from the ground up using a new tech stack. This rewrite encompasses the application shell, download manager, library, and store architecture, including the product detail and discovery pages.

The updated launcher is designed to offer faster load times and reduced system resource usage while running in the background. It also introduces new customization options, allowing users to organize their interface, and includes a shopping cart feature.

The preview version is currently available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. This release follows CEO Tim Sweeney's recent public statements regarding the company's commitment to "maximum AI acceleration" across its operations.
