Rockstar Games may reduce the lengthy wait times between future Grand Theft Auto installments. Technical lead Phil Hooker indicated that the engine, tools, and team developed for the current project will enable the studio to produce content more efficiently moving forward.

The development of the upcoming title involved significant structural changes, including the creation of a dedicated studio for nonplayable characters. This shift addressed previous limitations in production capabilities regarding writing and animation, which had contributed to earlier scheduling delays.

Hooker expressed confidence that the studio can build upon the existing framework to create compelling content more rapidly. This approach mirrors the strategy used between Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City, where an established foundation allowed for a one-year release gap.

The project faced an eight-year development cycle, resulting in a 13-year interval since the previous entry. Additionally, Rockstar’s publishing head Jennifer Kolbe clarified that development costs did not exceed $1.5 billion. The game is scheduled for release on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S.
