Valve has officially confirmed that the Index VR headset is no longer in production. Following the launch of the Steam Frame, the company is clearing out its remaining inventory of Index hardware at discounted prices while supplies last.
The standalone Index headset is now priced at $399.20, down from its original 2019 launch price of $499. However, the full bundle previously sold for $999 is no longer available for purchase.
Replacement parts are also being liquidated, with tethers listed at $103.20 and left controllers at $119.20. Notably, right-hand controllers and base stations are not currently listed, requiring users to source these components from third-party retailers.
Reflecting on the hardware, a past review praised the Index as the best headset available at its April 2019 launch, though it noted the device lacked a true 2.0 approach to VR. While tethered PC VR was the standard at the time, the reviewer observed that the technology now feels dated compared to modern cord-free alternatives.
