The Jackbox Party Pack 12 features a new game called MegaPals, an original concept pitched by Liz Anderson and Chase McClure that combines a word association game with a personality quiz. Drawing inspiration from the classic game Mind Meld, players receive a word and try to match responses with another player to earn points, while unmatched words lead to hot takes that players vote on for the next starter.
MegaPals introduces a first for the franchise by crowning two winners. The two players who achieve the most unique matches with each other throughout the game become the MegaPals and steal the crown. Additionally, the game offers bonus awards for individual performance at the end for players who prefer not to share their victory.
Controller engineer Ryan McGill designed phone screens to provide real-time information on other players' submissions as you write. Meanwhile, engineering lead Ariana Miles and art lead Owen Watson collaborated on a dynamic likes screen and a minimap that serves as a relationship chart. In an eight-player game, this minimap displays 28 possible winning pairs by matching each player with their highest scoring friend.
