Eric Barone, the developer known as ConcernedApe, continues to work on his upcoming title, Haunted Chocolatier. While the project was first revealed in 2021, Barone recently noted that he announced the game early and remains committed to a solo development process without outside playtesters.
The game is described as a town-based action RPG. Barone intends to shift the focus toward adventuring, equipment acquisition, and character progression, featuring monsters and boss encounters designed for players who enjoyed the mining segments of Stardew Valley.
Despite the increased emphasis on combat, the title will retain a cozy atmosphere. Players will manage a chocolate shop and interact with local residents, maintaining the social elements familiar to fans of Barone's previous work.
Barone has not provided a release date for the project. He maintains that he will not rush the development process, comparing the game to a turkey in an oven that must be finished before it is ready for public consumption.
