PlayStation has announced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), a new AI-driven upscaling performance tier born from the Project Amethyst collaboration with AMD. While PlayStation 5 Pro continues to utilize PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), hardware processing constraints previously prevented standard PS5 models from running PSSR. QSSR serves as a new evolution designed to bring AI-powered upscaling benefits to the base PS5, improving both visual detail and stability.

The first titles to adopt QSSR are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei. Both games receive QSSR options in their PS5 graphics settings via a patch released on Friday, October 2. Insomniac Games technology director Mike Fitzgerald and Sucker Punch Productions lead rendering engineer Jasmin Patry both highlighted how the new technology enhances fine details and temporal stability, giving standard PS5 players a taste of the experience previously limited to PS5 Pro.

QSSR will be made widely available to all developers building games for the PlayStation platform, with plans to bring the image quality improvements to even more future titles.
