Developer Wild Pepper Games has unveiled Obscurium, a single-player, first-person roguelike deckbuilder set in a darker, hostile version of Brazil. The game draws inspiration from Brazilian folklore, tasking players with hunting legendary creatures that have escaped into the world of the living to fulfill a pact for a second life.
Gameplay involves turn-based card combat where players navigate maps and build decks of rituals. During encounters, players place cards into four columns, with each successful strike against a creature lighting one of ten Sealing Runes. Defeating a creature requires sealing its soul into a grimoire, while taking too much damage results in the player's own candle burning out.
The game features iconic entities from oral tradition, including the Capelobo, the Pisadeira, and the Caboclo d'Água. Each creature behaves according to its specific legend, possessing unique combat modes and weaknesses. The visual style is inspired by traditional woodcut prints and Northeastern cordel literature.
Obscurium is scheduled for release on PC via Steam in 2027. Upon defeat, players lose their current deck, amulets, and progress, though the procedural nature of the map ensures that each subsequent run offers a different experience.
