Nintendo is set to release a ground-up remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2 on 5th November. This iteration aims to modernize the classic title, introducing significant visual and mechanical updates while retaining the core fairy tale essence of the original 1998 adventure.
The remake features a distinct art style that has drawn mixed reactions, though it successfully adds depth and texture to the world. Gameplay mechanics have been adjusted to align with recent entries like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, including a new quick item select menu and the removal of auto-jumping, which requires players to manually trigger jumps.
Dungeon layouts have been subtly altered, such as the addition of an elevator in the Forest Temple and changes to the Great Deku Tree. While the reviewer praised the atmospheric recreation of the Forest Temple and its boss fight, they criticized the English voice acting as sounding like a cheesy anime dub, though they noted that players can switch to subtitles.
Hyrule itself has been rebuilt, with changes to geography and camera controls in Hyrule Castle Town that allow for more exploration. Despite some concerns regarding removed landmarks like specific trees in Hyrule Field, the reviewer found the experience to be a brilliant, nostalgic homecoming that successfully refreshes a familiar world for both returning fans and newcomers.
