NetEase Games recently unveiled ECC: Redline, a self-described extreme-sports tactical shooter. While the developer positions the title as a major new project for PC and mobile, the announcement has triggered widespread accusations that the game is a direct imitation of Activision's Call of Duty: Warzone.
Observers and social media users have highlighted numerous similarities between the two titles. Critics point to the UI, sound effects, and weapon mechanics as being nearly identical to those found in Warzone. Even specific visual details, such as the first-person camera blur during drops, have drawn comparisons, despite the inclusion of unique character abilities in the new NetEase project.
Public reception remains divided. While many commentators label the game a blatant rip-off, some frustrated Call of Duty fans suggest that ECC: Redline could provide a compelling alternative. Proponents argue that if the game features superior server stability and responsive community management, it might successfully challenge the established shooter, especially as some players remain nostalgic for earlier versions of Warzone.
ECC: Redline is currently available to wishlist on Steam, though NetEase has not yet provided a specific release date for the free-to-play title. The company has previously faced similar scrutiny regarding game design, including legal action from Riot Games over Hyper Front and comparisons between Marvel Rivals and Overwatch.
