Released in 1995 on the Super Famicom, Seiken Densetsu 3 was a highly regarded RPG that remained exclusive to Japan for twenty-five years. Despite its status as a legendary import title, high translation costs and technical constraints prevented an official Western release during the 16-bit era.

The original game featured a complex system allowing players to select three heroes from six protagonists, each with unique storylines. It offered significant strategic depth through a class evolution system, alongside immersive mechanics like a day/night cycle and weekly variations.

In 2020, a 3D remake titled Trials of Mana launched on Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. This version modernized the experience with real-time combat, including combos and dodges, while adding an original story chapter and voice acting. JV awarded the remake 14/20, praising its effective combat and faithfulness to the original, though noting technical weaknesses and a dated artistic style.

Following its official international debut in the 2019 Collection of Mana and the subsequent 3D remake, the title achieved commercial success, surpassing one million units sold by 2021. This revival finally provided global audiences access to a title long considered a missing piece of Super Nintendo history.
