Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, has provided new insights into his upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier. While fans are eager for a release date, Barone confirmed in an interview with GQ that he requires more time to refine the game before it is ready for public play.

The developer describes the title as a town game that leans heavily into action RPG mechanics. Unlike the cozy focus of his previous work, this experience prioritizes adventure, equipment acquisition, and character progression, featuring both monsters and boss encounters.

Barone notes that the gameplay is designed for players who enjoyed the mining sections of Stardew Valley. He envisions a loop where players manage chocolate production during the day and engage in combat reminiscent of FromSoftware titles at night.

Furthermore, Barone characterizes Haunted Chocolatier as a more metaphysical experience than his debut title. He remains focused on managing development pressure and maintains that the game will not be released until he feels it is fully prepared.
