Dungeons and Dragons Online is introducing the Court of Strahd event, which tasks players with hunting down a new ally of Strahd known as The Caller. This antagonist and his minions must be tracked throughout the game world.
To participate, players must equip a special lantern provided by the Order of the Guardians. Users can select between a standard lantern or a skull lantern. The latter offers superior rewards but functions under a high-stakes mechanic where players have only one life; if a character dies, the skull lantern ceases to function, restricting the player to previously earned rewards.
Standing Stone Games notes that equipping a lantern triggers random encounters with Mists while questing. Defeating the enemies that emerge from these Mists maintains the durability of the lanterns. These encounters and their associated rewards occur automatically without requiring further player input.
The event is scheduled to begin tomorrow, inviting players to engage with these new mechanics and hunt down the forces of The Caller.
