Bandai Namco Entertainment announced that the Steam version of Ace Combat Zero, currently provided as a pre-order bonus for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, will be released as a standalone application. Previously, players could only access the title through the main Ace Combat 8 launcher, which required installing the full game, a title exceeding 140GB in size.
The decision follows player feedback regarding the inconvenience of the existing installation method. While the company previously noted that platform specifications and licensing constraints hindered a standalone release, discussions with partners have now cleared the path for this change. This update is strictly for existing pre-order bonus holders and does not represent a new way to purchase the game.
The developer is currently conducting final checks and testing for the standalone version. Once available, players will retain the option to launch the game via the main Ace Combat 8 application or as a separate app. Furthermore, the company confirmed that Steam Cloud will support save data synchronization between both versions.
Ace Combat 8 is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. While a specific release date for the standalone Ace Combat Zero application has not been disclosed, the company is also preparing a separate update to address various bugs within the main Ace Combat 8 title.
