Eleven-year-old Japanese competitor Yuki Kurihara secured the gold medal in the Puyo Puyo Champions esports tournament during the Asian Games in Nagoya. Kurihara triumphed over South Korean opponent Kang Dong-shin to claim the top podium spot.
The young champion achieved this victory following a remarkable comeback in the final match. After dropping an early advantage to trail 1-0, Kurihara rallied strongly to dominate the remainder of the contest and finish with a 10-2 score.
Throughout the tournament, Kurihara outperformed numerous rivals, some of whom were triple his age. He is believed to have been the youngest participant present at the Aichi-Nagoya games, maintaining exceptional composure under pressure.
Reflecting on his triumph after receiving his heavy, shining medal, Kurihara remarked that he felt somewhat embarrassed and struggled to show expressions on the podium, while noting his preference for eating eel to prepare for competitions.
