Nintendo is set to release a modernized remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5. This new version aims to transform the 1998 classic into a fluid, modern experience while retaining its original magical atmosphere.
The remake introduces significant technical and gameplay enhancements, including volumetric lighting that creates a more natural day/night cycle. Players can now customize their experience with three display modes—Normal, Pro, and Expert—allowing for the removal of on-screen interface elements to increase immersion. Additionally, the game features new content such as the Monster Amphitheater, where players can re-fight bosses and track their times, and new interactions with Navi.
The audio experience has been completely overhauled with a full voice cast in French and a fully re-orchestrated soundtrack. This update fulfills the original artistic ambitions of composer Koji Kondo, who previously faced significant technical constraints regarding memory and sound processing on the Nintendo 64 hardware.
While the reviewer notes that the Monster Amphitheater largely recycles existing boss encounters, they express optimism that the game may contain further hidden activities. The title also benefits from broader visual density improvements across key locations like Kokiri Village and Hyrule Field.
