An indie developer known as chicanogoth is gaining viral attention for creating a retro-style video game based on Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film. The project, humorously dubbed Resident Evil: The Movie: The Game, adapts scenes from the movie into an interactive experience.
The game features mechanics reminiscent of early Resident Evil titles, including fixed camera angles and a polygonal art style. Footage showcases the character Bryan Hodukavich fleeing from an infected Doberman Pinscher, with the developer noting that the dog model draws inspiration from Resident Evil 2.
Development updates shared on October 19 highlight the inclusion of various death and injury animations. The creator, who describes this as their first major development project, has expressed gratitude for the community's interest and plans to continue adding content to the game.
This fan project emerges alongside the film's significant commercial success, having grossed over $360 million worldwide. While the future of an official movie sequel remains uncertain, the game joins a recent wave of viral Resident Evil fan content, including a short film adaptation of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
