Developers from the open-source Xodus community have introduced the Xodus Nexus launcher, a tool designed to enable SteamOS support for the Xbox store and its associated Game Pass services. This innovation allows users to access the Xbox ecosystem directly on SteamOS without the necessity of installing Windows or managing dual-boot configurations.
The launcher integrates the Xbox App's graphical interface, replicating the full-screen mode experience found on consoles. Users can navigate menus using handheld controllers, touch inputs, or third-party peripherals, maintaining a familiar interface while browsing and installing titles directly from the store.
Compatibility remains a significant limitation, as not all titles function correctly on SteamOS. Older games lacking DirectX 12 support may encounter errors, and multiplayer titles utilizing anti-cheat software incompatible with SteamOS are restricted. The team notes that while games like Gears of War: E-Day and Palworld are playable, others such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Microsoft Jewel currently crash upon launch.
The development team intends to refine the launcher through ongoing community feedback. Users should expect compatibility lists and software performance to evolve as future updates are released, as the current status of specific games may change with subsequent versions of the tool.
