Microsoft and AMD have officially announced that FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.1 is coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles. This upcoming integration aims to provide players with improved graphical quality and performance through advanced machine-learning-based temporal image upscaling.

The technology functions by rendering games at lower resolutions before reconstructing them to higher outputs. This approach represents a shift from earlier iterations like FSR 1 and FSR 2, which primarily utilized spatial algorithms or basic temporal accumulation methods.

While the update is expected to offer a noticeable boost, it is noted that Xbox Series X|S hardware lacks the dedicated machine-learning silicon found in systems like the PS5 Pro. Consequently, expectations regarding performance parity with such hardware should remain tempered.

Xbox chief technology officer Scott Van Vliet confirmed that the feature will arrive on current consoles soon. Furthermore, Microsoft and AMD are collaborating to incorporate this technology into the upcoming next-gen console, currently referred to as Project Helix.
